The Larry Norvell Band Shell on the east side of City Park at Fremont St. is the home of our wonderful Manhattan Municipal Band and is the go-to venue for big public gatherings. Headline events there are the summer concert series, Arts in the Park, and two K-State events, the Purple Power Play and Homecoming Pep rally.
Set among the decades old trees of City Park, the band shell is a lovely place to take in a summer’s afternoon as it fades to night alongside a thousand other locals, their bag chairs, pets, and kids. As we all jam–especially the kids–to another great out-of-town act the Parks & Rec folks have invited to our town. Parking can be limited right near the band shell, so walking or biking might be a more pleasant option. Most of the town is within a 10 minute bike ride of City Park. Just be sure, if the event ends after dark bring lights for the trip back home.
