Browsing

You never need an account to browse. We use no analytics, no ad trackers, and no tracking cookies.

Pages load the map from OpenFreeMap (map tiles from OpenStreetMap data) and fonts from Google Fonts, so those services see your IP address when your browser fetches them.

If you tap the locate button, your browser asks before sharing your location. Your location stays on your phone; we use it only to show distances and never send it to our server.

Sharing an event

When you share a link, our server reads that one page's public details (its title, description and event data), only if the site's robots.txt allows it, and sends those details to Anthropic's Claude to pull out the date, time and place. A person checks every shared event before it goes up. If you fill in the form instead, we store what you typed.

To stop abuse we keep your IP address for up to one hour to limit how many events one person can share.

Reporting a listing

Reports store the listing and the reason you picked. Your IP address is kept for up to one hour to limit repeat reports.

Email to hello@mhktoday.com

Mail sent to hello@mhktoday.com is stored so we can read it. Newsletters we subscribe to are sent to Anthropic's Claude to find events in them.

Signing in

You only sign in to post a lost or found pet, add a sighting, or use a pet post's Contact button. Sign-in codes are sent and checked by Twilio Verify. We store your phone number as a one-way hash for sign-in and encrypted for Contact (below), plus a session token hash for 7 days. Only US numbers can sign in.

Lost and found pets

A pet post shows the photo, description, and the pin you drop, plus the nearest street name from OpenStreetMap. Your phone number is never shown on the post. If you leave "let neighbors reach me" on, someone who has verified their own phone can tap Contact and see your number. Turn that off when you post and nobody can.

Photos are re-encoded on your phone before upload and stored without location (EXIF) data. Posts come down after 14 days unless you keep them up; reunited posts stay in the Back home list.

Two days before a post comes down we plan to text the poster a reminder. Right now those reminders are stored, not sent.

Pet alerts

If you turn on alerts, your browser gives us a push address and we store the alert area you picked, with the center rounded to about a block. We use it only to send lost-and-found pet alerts. Turning alerts off deletes it.

Where listings come from

Every listing shows its source and when we last checked it. Venues can ask us to correct or remove a listing at hello@mhktoday.com.
